France’s Alex Lanier booked his place in the semifinals of the Singapore Open after fighting back to defeat Denmark’s Anders Antonsen in the quarterfinals.
Lanier lost the opening game 14-21, but responded brilliantly with aggressive attacking play and high intensity to turn the match around. The young Frenchman claimed the second game 21-16 before sealing the comeback with another 21-16 win in the decider.
With the victory, Alex Lanier advances to the semifinals of the Singapore Open, where he will face Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan.
The semifinal promises to be an exciting clash between two of badminton’s rising stars, both of whom have impressed throughout the tournament.
Earlier in the day, Denmark also had reason to celebrate in mixed doubles, as Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Bøje secured their place in the semifinals with a hard-fought 16-21, 21-15, 21-10 victory.
In the semifinal, Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Bøje will face China’s Gao and Wei, a pair they know very well after meeting twice over the past two weeks.
The head-to-head has been extremely tight: Christiansen and Bøje came out on top in a close three-game victory in Thailand, but just last week they suffered a narrow three-game defeat in Malaysia.
