Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Bøje are champions of the Singapore Open after producing a brilliant comeback performance in the mixed doubles final.
The Danish pair defeated Japan’s Shimogami and Hobara 17-21, 21-12, 21-12 to secure the title and continue their remarkable run of form on the BWF World Tour.
After dropping the opening game, Christiansen and Bøje found themselves under heavy pressure from the Japanese pair. However, the Danes adapted superbly and completely turned the momentum of the match around.
Reflecting on the comeback, Bøje praised both their adjustments and resilience:
"No doubt they played a really, really good first set. He was so good at playing it into me all the time. We adapted quite well in the second set, got on the 'good side' and I am proud of the way we handled that situation."
The tactical changes paid immediate dividends. Christiansen and Bøje took control of the second game and never looked back, dominating both the second and third games by identical 21-12 scorelines.
The victory marks their second tournament title in just three weeks after winning Thailand Open just 2 weeks ago. Next week is the biggest tournament of this Asian leg of the World Tour when the danes will compete at the Indonesia Open on Wednesday.
The win is also a historic one. With their triumph in Singapore, Christiansen and Bøje become the first European mixed doubles pair ever to win more than one Singapore Open title.
Next up is Alex Lanier who will face homefavourite Loh Kean Yew.
