Alex Lanier became the first French men's singles player ever to win the Singapore Open after defeating home favorite Loh Kean Yew 17-21, 21-15, 21-14 in a thrilling final on Sunday.

Playing in front of a packed Singapore crowd, Lanier had to overcome both the former world champion and the atmosphere inside the arena. After dropping the opening game, the 21-year-old Frenchman responded with the composure and attacking quality that have defined his week.

Lanier made a flying start to all three games, repeatedly putting Loh under pressure from the outset. While the Singaporean managed to battle back and claim the opening game, the Frenchman remained calm and continued to trust his game plan.

The second game followed a similar pattern. Lanier established an early advantage and, despite a spirited comeback from Loh, found another gear when it mattered most. A decisive run of points late in the game helped him level the match and force a decider.

In the third game, Lanier once again surged into an early lead and this time never allowed Loh to mount a full comeback. Controlling the rallies with confidence, the Frenchman maintained his advantage before sealing a memorable victory and the biggest individual title of his season.

After the match, a happy Lanier reflected on his achievement:

"Very tired and very proud of myself. I knew it wasn't going to be easy today, he has been playing amazingly this whole tournament."

The title marks another major milestone in Lanier's rapidly rising career. By lifting the trophy, he becomes the first French men's singles player ever to win the Singapore Open and secures the second Super 750 title of his career.

After an outstanding week in Singapore, both Lanier and Mathias Christiansen/Alexandra Bøje leaves with the trophy and a lot of points to the world rankings.
