Fourth seed Christo Popov is out of the Super 750 tournament Singapore Open in the second round.

The newly crowned European Champion suffered a surprising defeat against World No. 18 Chi Yu Jen from Chinese Taipei in a very close match. 22-20, 19-21, 21-23 were the narrow scorelines that sent the Frenchman out of the tournament.

However, several other Europeans successfully booked their spots in the quarterfinals.

Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva advanced to the quarterfinals in their first tournament since the Uber Cup one month ago. Today, the Bulgarian sisters won 21-8, 21-13 against Thailand’s Phattharin Aiamvareesrisakul and Sarisa Janpeng.

Anders Antonsen defeated World Championships bronze medallist Victor Lai 27-25, 21-15.

Alex Lanier won 21-16, 21-13 against Weng Hong Yang and will face Anders Antonsen in the quarterfinals.

Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Bøje continue their impressive run and reached the quarterfinals with a 21-11, 21-17 victory over Liu Kuang Heng and Hsu Yin-Hui.
