There were several European pairs that had a successful opening day at the VICTOR China Open.

Mixed doubles seeded pairs Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue and Mathias Christiansen/Alexandra Bøje both safely booked their places in the second round with convincing wins. The French and Danish duos are now just one win away from a potential all-European quarterfinal.

Ben Lane/Sean Vendy also made an impressive start, requiring just 22 minutes to wrap up their opening match. The English pair will face a much tougher test on Thursday when they face sixth seeds Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani.

There was also some success in women's doubles, where Bengisu Ercetin/Nazlıcan Inci came through a close opening match to secure their place in the second round.

It was an earlier end to the tournament than hoped for some of Europe's top players, with Anders Antonsen and Line Kjærsfeldt among those losing on the opening day.

The first round continues tomorrow, with newly crowned DAIHATSU Japan Open champion Christo Popov kicking off his campaign against Lee Cheuk Yiu.

Also in action are Toma Junior Popov, Kirsty Gilmour, Nhat Nguyen, Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, Polina Buhrova/Yevheniia Kantemyr, Callum Hemming/Estelle Van Leeuwen, and Marvin Seidel/Thuc Phuong Nguyen.
